Life has a funny way of bringing people together. Call it fate, chance, or divine intervention, we knew when BlazeSports America came though our doors it was going to be a special relationship. BlazeSports is a leading non profit organization focused on the equal opportunity of disabled youths and adults. Through sport they have been able to positively change countless disabled individuals’ lives. What impressed us so much about BlazeSports was not only the group’s inspirational message, but also their relentless dedication. From Egypt, to Iran, to Haiti, these ambassadors of equality truly have no border.
When Carol (pictured above), BlazeSports CEO, found us online she told us she said “I found them… they’re the one!” Thanks Carol. That means a lot to us and we felt equally the same after our first meeting with her.
BlazeSports was born from the legacy of the 1996 Paralympic Games. They have expanded and evolved since then but unfortunately their brand image did not. Starting from the ground up we first updated their logo. The phoenix has been a staple of BlazeSports since the beginning. Knowing that was a keeper, we incorporated the phoenix into the flame of our redesigned logo, to better unify BlazeSports and the mythology of the phoenix.
Next we adjusted their phoenix mascot, Blaze. He already had a great personality and a big presence in the organization, so only some minor tweaks needed to be made.
From there we moved into a bigger challenge; their web presence. Their current site didn’t reflect who they were anymore. They have “grown up” since 1996 and were ready for change. These are amazing people with amazing stories and that was not being utilized on their current site. They had years of history, knowledge and expertise to highlight but needed it to be packaged in a more sophisticated container.
Through the CMS ability of WordPress, the new site features easily up-datable news stories, homepage graphics, and calendar entries. Because BlazeSports has such a large amount of available content to be put online, we developed a flexible system anyone could update.
But the journey isn’t over. Far from it. We’re partnering with Blaze for the next year to help them in their local and international campaign for equality. Stay tuned for more developments!
