Even in a digital world, businesses often rely on their print materials to do the talking (and selling) for them. Since first impressions can mean the difference between getting new business or a missed opportunity, here are three print design techniques that can help your print materials stand out and impress potential customers.
Print Technique #1: Emboss/Deboss
Embossing and Debossing are print techniques that either raise or lower portions of the paper to create a multi-dimensional effect. Logos and other graphic design elements are ideal for this technique, helping them stand off the piece or appearing to be pressed into the paper.
Print Technique #2: Foil Stamp
Using metallic foils, you can create a reflective sheen that catches the light. Foils come in many different colors, and can be used in combination with other techniques to emphasize the effect. Below, silver and blue foil are used in the logo and tagline portions of the folder cover that have also been debossed.
Print Technique #3: Custom Die-Cut
Whether it’s the overall shape of the folder or an inside pocket, custom die-cuts can be used to creatively enhance the print piece with virtually any shape. Below, a custom die-cut was used to highlight the embossed brand on the folder’s pocket.
Combined with the right colors and the perfect paper, we were able to use these print techniques to create a sophisticated folder and matching inserts for our client, MR Systems, that is definitely getting noticed. Claxton Printing was our print partner that brought this design to life. This brief video shows these print techniques in action.
